Over-advantaged woman examines reality

What can I do to transfer or renounce some of my privilege? Our dialogue centers on  enfranchising the “disadvantaged” but we never discuss the true implications of “over-advantage” besides thanking God we are so blessed. Would I be willing to move down a rung in some respect in order for someone else deserving to move up a rung? Would I give up my indulgence in graduate studies so another intellectual with less family money could get a bachelors, or even master’s? Would I promote the hiring of someone equally qualified but subtly marginalized at the job I wanted? Would I endorse the publication of a work by someone of color that was as good or better than my own, knowing that I would be rightfully, but certainly, supplanted? Would I give away my seat at an enriching show or workshop? I am not a benefactor to bestow benevolence or “help”, but perhaps the world cries for my undeserved leg-up to step down somehow. How? Fascination with differences is not love. Ethnic groups are not a charm to add to my bracelet of cosmopolitan identity. Love is doing what makes us all whole and view ourselves individually and collectively in an appropriate light. Love would keep trying until it found avenues to justice. Do I love or do I dabble in ideas? Young-white-healthy-pretty-smart-straight-every-advantage-but-maleness-ism.
